VCU’s homecoming parade will close some roads in the city Friday

VCU’s homecoming parade will close some roads in the city Friday

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — VCU is hosting its fourth annual homecoming parade on Friday.

The parade is expected to have 25 groups, 17 vehicles, two floats and around 400 participants.

The first two street closures of the day will begin at noon near VCU’s Stuart C. Siegel Center. They include:

  • West Marshall Street between Norton and North Harrison Streets.
  • North Harrison Street between West Marshall and West Broad Streets.

VCU will host a tailgate party in this area after the parade. You should expect these areas to be closed until about 11 p.m.

For the parade, VCU Police will have brief road closures starting at 4 p.m., and officers will escort participants along the parade route. Closures for the parade are expected to be in place for approximately 30 minutes.

This year’s parade participants will stage on the 1000 block of Floyd Avenue. From Floyd Avenue, the route will proceed north on North Harrison Street, west on Broad Street, north on Bowe Street and east on West Marshall Street, where the parade ends near the Siegel Center.

No parking areas (with posted signage) will be enforced on the 1000 block of Floyd Avenue for the parade and the 1200 and 1300 blocks of West Marshall Street for the tailgate party.

SHARE THANKSGIVING WITH AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT

Thanksgiving Day is an opportunity to show hospitality and friendship to VCU international students and scholars who are eager to learn about American culture and experience the warmth of a home.  The VCU Global Education Office invites you to share this special American holiday with a VCU international student or scholar. An article describing a family’s experiences from last year can be found here.

Neighborhood Porch Lights

If your home isn’t right in front of a street light, consider leaving your porch light on all night. Light deters crime and makes people feel safer. Timers which automatically turn porch lights on and off can be installed in place of a light switch, these can be very inexpensive and easy to install. This Halloween is on a Saturday, this could be a good time to start deterring petty crime by keeping things lit.
