Opening Weekend for “Man of La Mancha”

Friday night is opening night for Dogwood Dell’s biggest musical of the summer! Inspired by Miguel de Cervantes’ Don Quixote, the musical uses a fascinating play-within-a-play format to tell the story of a delusional knight in the time of the Spanish Inquisition. The show starts ateight-thirty in the evening on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday this weekend as well as next Friday(7/31) and Saturday (8/1). For more information visit:  http://www.richmondvatheater.com/announcements/man-of-la-mancha-dogwood-dell.html

Put Your Junk in Your Trunk!

Obvious items such as purses, cell phones, iPods, laptops, and Game Boys are all being stolen. But thieves are also taking items such as sweatshirts, loose change, cigarettes, and car chargers.

Reduce the opportunity for theft from vehicles:

  • Park in well-lighted area
  • Park in well-traveled area
  • Lock your doors
  • Do no leave valuables in the car
  • Mark or slash inspection stickers and city decals
  • Put valuables in the trunk
  • Do not use your glove box as a safe
  • Do not leave toll change in plain view

You will be able to chat with Officer Kenny and other RPD and VCU officers at Randolph’s upcoming National Night Out on Tuesday, August 4th from 6pm-8pm.

Tree Walk – Petronius Jones Park – Thursday, July 23rd

In the past three years, the Richmond Tree Stewards have planted 45 shade trees in Petronius Jones Park for future generations to enjoy. The trees were provided by grant from Altria and the Dennis Family Fund.

This Thursday, July 23rd, Richmond Tree Stewards will be leading a guided tour of the trees starting at 7pm. We will meet on the corner of Idlewood & Allen. This is a great opportunity to learn about the need for biodiversity among our trees and all the benefits that urban trees provide us.

PJ4

The Tree Stewards have continued to care for these trees by watering them during the hot summer months. If you are interested in volunteering to help with the watering, please contact us at randolphrva@gmail.com.

See Click Fix – Alley Pick Up Requests

Randolph leadership documented all furniture & yard waste this afternoon on SeeClickFix. Please take a moment to download SeeClickFix onto your smartphone, confirm known pickups are reported and VOTE for action from Department of Public Works (DPW).

Description of SeeClickFix –

SeeClickFix is a communications platform for citizens to report non-emergency issues, and governments to track, manage, and reply–ultimately making communities better through transparency, collaboration, and cooperation.

They say all politics is local. While we’re not political, we do believe that changes that have a real impact on our daily lives occur at the neighborhood or city level. It’s our goal to provide the best tools for residents and governments to communicate for all sizes, populations, and budgets.

SeeClickFix could not be done without help. On top of the passionate, fast-growing team of entrepreneurs at SeeClickFix, it is really only made possible by the amazing volunteers, citizens, and members of governments large and small who are passionate about everything civic.

In the future, we can also request a truck for a community cleanups. We need to have volunteers to help out though. Please let Amy Robins at rvacleansweep@gmail.com know if you are interested in helping out with such cleanups in the future.

Don’t forget to VOTE on reported pickups!

Input sought for the next Thomas Jefferson High School Principal

From Kristen Gray:

Please help with the principal search for Thomas Jefferson High School by filling out the survey (quick and easy). [. . . ] It is in the city’s best interest to have great principals in our schools. This survey (see below) is open to all -people in the school and in the Richmond community. Thank you.

Message from Thomas Jefferson homepage:

“Hazard, Young and Attea (HYA), a national educational executive search firm, is working with the superintendent and his staff to identify the broadest possible pool of candidates for the principalship at Thomas Jefferson High School. Consultants from HYA facilitated focus group meetings with staff, parents and community members on July 7th and July 8th. The purpose of these sessions was to identify the school’s strengths and challenges and to determine the characteristics sought in a new principal. In addition, HYA is conducting an on-line survey to gather information about Thomas Jefferson High School. This survey will be open until Wednesday, July 15th. HYA will return on Monday, July 20th to present their findings from the survey and discussions. The meeting will be held in the Thomas Jefferson Media Center at 3pm.”
